Can I wear make up after laser hair removal?

We would not recommend wearing normal makeup or concealer after your laser hair removal session.

After your laser session, the tiny follicles on the face will be sensitive to irritants. It is important during this time to limit the number of products your skin comes into contact with. This will prevent any possible breakouts or reactions on the skin.

Mineral make up may be applied to the area directly after treatment and may be used on the area the next day to cover any noticeable redness. We would advise removing this in the evening to allow the skin to fully recover.

When cleansing the skin before bed after your session follow these simple guidelines to prevent any adverse skin reactions

• Use tepid water when cleansing
• Use a fragrance-free cleanser
• Use a clean towel to dry the skin
• Pat the skin dry, don’t rub it
• Do not use any harsh scrubs or exfoliators
• Apply a layer of Aloe Vera overnight to reduce any redness
• Do not shave or use any hair removal creams on the treatment area

When can I put makeup on after Laser Hair Removal?

We would recommend you wait 24-48 hours depending on your own skin’s recovery process. When starting laser for the first time you will notice that the skin will react more to laser. If you have a very strong heavy hair growth on the facial area you may experience prolonged periods where redness (erythema) and swelling of the follicles (follicular oedema) are evident. Don’t worry, this will dramatically decrease over time. After each session hair growth will become finer and lighter so the reaction from the laser will get less and less.

We would always recommend that you schedule your session in the evening time after work, college etc so that you are not so self-conscious after your treatment. As you progress through your course you will notice that the after-effects of laser will disappear within a few hours and will be much less noticeable. It is just important to be mindful of the effects make up may have on your skin throughout your course of treatment and that is why we would recommend you wear good quality mineral make up after your session of laser hair removal.
