Is it safe to have laser hair removal if you have skin tags?
Yes, it is safe to have laser hair removal if you have skin tags. Flesh coloured skin tags are fine to work around during treatment. However, if skin tags have darker pigment there is slightly more risk. If you have darker skin tags laser must not be pulsed directly over these during treatment. When laser energy is delivered into the skin it is designed to search and absorb into anything containing pigment. If the setting on the laser is too high there is a risk the skin tag may absorb too much energy. If laser is pulsed over a skin tag it will become darker and may become irritated for a few weeks after treatment.
Is it safe to remove skin tags?
Yes, it is safe to remove skin tags. There are various ways to remove these however this should always be done with caution to avoid the risk of complications. Some smaller skin tags can be removed using over the counter products from Pharmacy’s. Larger skin tags can be removed by excision or cryotherapy and these methods should be carried out by a qualified professional.
How long after you have had skin tags removed can you have laser?
For small skin tags that have been removed, it is safe to continue as normal with your laser sessions. Inform your therapist that you have recently removed a skin tag and they will pulse around the area. Our therapists will always avoid pulsing directly over the area with the laser. For medium to large skin tags which have been surgically removed it’s best to wait a period of 4-5 weeks. This gives the skin time to heal completely. Generally, healing may take a period of 5-10 days depending on the size of the skin tag. This is a guideline and some people may need a longer time in order to heal fully. If you are unsure it’s best to book an assessment so we can check the area for you.
